Recycle a used vehicle

Do you have an older car, truck, van, trailer, RV or boat taking up valuable space in your driveway? If you live in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, Summerland, or Carpinteria, your car donations can support Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County's local mission of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness and save you the time and energy of finding a buyer.

By donating a car to Habitat's vehicle donation program, you can help Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County build houses in partnership with families in need of a hand up, not a hand out. Your donated vehicle will help us fund construction of the 12 new homes we break ground on  this fall.
 
It is quick and easy to donate automobiles, trucks, boats, RV’s, motorcycles, construction equipment and other vehicles ~ running or not! Plus, you may be eligible for a tax deduction. (Consult your tax advisor or the IRS for details.)

Just in time for Earth Day

Did you know that the automobile is the most heavily recycled consumer product? Each year the steel industry recycles more than 14 million tons of steel from junk cars and end-of-life vehicles. This is equivalent to nearly 13.5 million new automobiles!

Junk cars are typically hauled to auto salvage yards, where reusable car parts are removed along with other items, like batteries, tires and fluids. Recycled automobiles enter the shredding process in which iron and steel are magnetically separated from the other materials and salvaged. Reclaimed iron and steel is shipped to be recycled to produce new steel.

Car donations to Habitat for Humanity can help more low-income families have a decent place to call home.  By donating a car to Habitat’s Cars for Homes program, you help build houses in partnership with families in need of decent, affordable shelter.

It's simple: call Cars for Homes at 877-277-4344 or visit carsforhomes.org to donate your cars, boats, RVs, motorcycles, airplanes or other motorized vehicles -  running or not!

How much of the donation goes to house building? Well, because every donated vehicle is unique there isn't a standard amount. It depends on the condition, location, quality, etc. Late-model cars that are running and in good condition will generate more funds than non-running vehicles. But we aren't picky.  Everything counts!

The Cars for Home program is managed by Habitat for Humanity International and all the net proceeds from your vehicle donation will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County.
