DIY Mailbox from the Habitat ReStore

Habitat for Humanity Santa Barbara loves receiving photos of Do-It-Yourself projects made from materials found at the ReStore. The ReStore is part of Habitat's overall "green" initiative and we're thrilled that people look to the ReStore as a source before buying brand new products. 

Today we received photos from a DIY mailbox project. 85% of the materials and tools used on this mailbox came from the ReStore, 14% came from reclaimed materials from the house itself and 1% was purchased new for the project itself (only glue). Now that's a ratio that we love to hear.

What's New in the ReStore?

As we recently shared, the Habitat ReStore has expanded by 5,000 square feet into the adjacent warehouse. The project is almost complete and the area is already packed with new items and an amazing display of inventory. Thanks to groups of volunteers from Community Solutions, Inc. and Vandenberg Air Force Base, the new area is well organized and recently painted. 

We hope you will join Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, July 9th for the ReStore's expansion kick-off celebration and BBQ. We will be offering 10% off your total purchase all day as well as a BBQ lunch from 12-2pm. See you on the 9th!

Do-It-Yourself projects from the Habitat ReStore

Recently the Habitat ReStore received pictures of two creative DIY projects made from recycled items found at the ReStore. We love hearing from satisfied customers, especially when it involves materials from the ReStore that have been reused in creative ways!

The first is a table decorated from students at Elwood Elementary School. Marysue emailed us to say:

"Recently I found the cover to a light fixture and four banisters. I used them to make a small table which I painted black.  Then the first grade class at Ellwood Elementary (here in Goleta) decorated it with mosaic tiles for their Spring Auction. It turned out beautifully. The table top was only $3.00 and the legs were $2.00 each."

The next project is of a backyard patio. All of the decorative tiles were purchased from the Habitat ReStore.
