Volunteer Spotlight on Amy

On Wednesday Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers recognized Amy for her 25 hours served in the ReStore. We love to celebrate volunteers for their dedication to Habitat's work in Santa Barbara. After 25 hours, every volunteer gets a personalized name-tag and certificate, and for every 100 hours there after, volunteers get a Habitat pin to add to their name-tag.

Are you looking for volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Santa Barbara? Our next volunteer orientation will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 6725 Hollister Avenue. You can also sign up to volunteer directly online here.

Drop Off Your Donations - It's Easy!

All products and materials in the ReStore are donated by organizations and individuals who support Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County

Donating to the ReStore is Smart, Green, and Good!
  • Smart - All donations are tax deductible! We will provide a tax receipt for all donations.
  • Green - Donating used items that are still in usable condition keeps them out of our local landfills.
  • Good - All sales from the ReStore go directly back to Habitat for Humanity in Santa Barbara and help cover our administrative costs. This allows us to use money raised to fully cover the cost of building affordable and low-income homes in our community.
Please help Habitat for Humanity spread the word! Tell your friends, family, neighbors, business associates and your faith community about donating to the ReStore. It's easy, convienient, and helps families in our town!

How to donate? Donations can be dropped off during open hours (Tuesday to Friday 12-5pm and Saturdays 9am to 5pm).  If your donation is too large a truck pick-up can be scheduled for big-ticket items. To schedule a pick-up contact Joel at 692-2226.

A Brush with Kindness Home Repair, Santa Barbara

On Saturday, December 10th a group of volunteers celebrating a 30th birthday spent the day clearing brush for fire safety, removing a broken fence surrounding the property, and landscaping the front and back of the house as part of Habitat's "A Brush with Kindness" home repair program. The repairs took place at the home of Ann, an 82-year-old widowed homeowner who has lived in her home in the foothills of Santa Barbara for 59 years.

Due to the home's proximity to the fire zone, Habitat consulted with the county fire department to learn what brush and vegetation on the property should be cleared to protect both the home and homeowner. Fire resistant plants were also replanted thanks to generous donations provided by Seven Day Nursery and Island Seed and Feed.

Celebrate the Gift of Giving this Christmas

This holiday season, consider giving your loved one's a gift that keeps on giving: a donation to Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County.

Make a donation in honor of someone and Habitat for Humanity will send them a card informing they that a contribution has been made in their name to help a family in need build a decent and affordable home.

A donation to Habitat for Humanity is a simple way to show care and to make a real difference this year.

Vote to help Habitat for Humanity win $50,000!

Montecito Bank & Trust has selected Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County to be one of the nine local non-profits competing to be the beneficiary for the 2012 Santa Barbara Triathlon. Donations from this annual event could reach $50,000 which would substantially support Habitat as we raise funds for the Canon Perdido Affordable homes project which will provide homes for 12 local families.

The critical factor in Habitat for Humanity being selected is your vote!

Please take a moment and click on the link below. Select Habitat for Humanity from the list of organizations to submit your vote. It takes less than 30 seconds so please do it today!

Only one vote per person is allowed. Please share this email with your family, friends, coworkers and any one else you can think of and ask that they vote for Habitat. Voters do not need to live in Santa Barbara.

If selected, Habitat for Humanity will devote the funds to the construction of the 12 new low-income homes that we are building on Canon Perdido Street. These 12 homes will provide safe, decent and affordable housing for hard-working and deserving families in our community.

The high price of housing in Santa Barbara means that hundreds of low-income families are forced to live in overcrowded apartments or converted garages, many of which do not meet minimum health and safety standards. Our immediate goal is to help 12 families move from substandard housing into their own home and with your help, and your vote, we can accomplish this goal.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to make your voice and your vote heard today.  We would also like to thank Montecito Bank & Trust for their generous support of Habitat and other worthy organizations in Santa Barbara.

Just think, with one click you can help Habitat raise $50,000!

More space for donated building material

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Goleta raises funds to help Habitat build affordable homes in the Santa Barbara areas. And,  it keeps usable materials out of the waste stream and into home building, remodeling and creative arts projects. Recently the ReStore expanded and here are the pictures to prove it!

Calling All Volunteers

We need your help! It's summertime and you know what that means...long and sunny days. What better way to spend your summer than by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers are crucial to our programs and we wouldn't be able to operate our ReStore in Goleta without volunteers.

Why volunteer at the Habitat ReStore:
  1. The ReStore has kept over 300 tons of building materials from our local landfills. ie: you're being GREEN
  2. The ReStore provides an affordable way for families to make improvements to their homes.
  3. All proceeds from the ReStore go directly back to Habitat and help us build low-income housing for families in need.
It really is easy to sign-up to volunteer online: sign up to volunteer. The program will walk you though our online volunteer orientation or you can attend one in person next Saturday, July 9th at 11am here at the ReStore.

The Habitat ReStore will be open this Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 28th from 9am to 5pm. We've had some great donations come through our doors this week, including shelving units from our local Borders Book Store, an old-fashioned stand-up pinball machine, and many hanging chandeliers.

We've uploaded some pictures of the new inventory. Be sure to check it out, but like always, it's better to visit the ReStore in person as we're not able to photograph each item that comes in.
