The myths of affordable housing

Jonathon Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, posted a great blog titled "Poverty Housing Affects Everyone" that we highly recommend you read. In the post he addresses three of the largest myths we hear regularly affordable housing.

Myth 1: Housing is important, but it is not at the top of the list. According to this report, poor housing conditions increase the risk of severe ill-health and/or disability by 25% during childhood.
Myth 2: Affordable housing is someone else’s problem.
Myth 3: Homeownership really isn’t for low-income people.  We believe that all people, of many income levels, can be successful homeowners. Homeownership provides more than a roof overhead, it  also provides families with the pride and dignity that comes with a stable home.

Are there any other affordable housing myths that you hear? If so, we'd love to hear them and address them.
